Inside the Curry County Democrats Centrral Committee

The Curry County Democratic Central Committee is the official representation of registered Democrats who live within [Curry County, Oregon]. All voters legally registered as Democrats, and residing in Curry County, are members of this organization and of the Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO)

Our vision is to restore an effective and efficient government that will respect your rights, count your votes, rebuild the economy, and restore accountability. We do that by organizing Democrats within the County to develop, adopt and support a party platform, with the goal of electing Democratic candidates to elected office. We also represent Democrats at the Congressional District and State Central committees.

We are active locally in numerous projects and issues, on a wide variety of interests and are dedicated to making people's lives better.

The Curry County Democratic Central Committee (CCDCC) is the highest authority in county party policies. This body has the authority to adopt rules or Bylaws or resolutions covering any matter of party government within the county. Additionally, this is the body that establishes the policies, articulates the beliefs and establishes the standard of all local Democratic candidates. These basic policies, beliefs and standards are then passed on to the State and National party for action.

The CCDCC has the power to call for and receive reports from the Executive Committee, the standing committees, and any special or ad hoc committees; Act upon proposed resolutions as provided in the County party Bylaws; Establish rules and procedures for the organization and takes such action as it deems appropriate to further the purposes and goals of the Democratic Party.

The precinct is the smallest political unit in the country and the Democratic Party begins it organization with the Precinct Committee Persons (PCPs). A Precinct Committeeperson is a representative of the Party in the precinct level, and represents the party in the precinct in which he or she resides.Members of the CCDCC are made up of all PCPs elected or appointed in Curry County and any Democratic legislator who lives in and is a PCP of another county and who represents a portion of Curry County.

Becoming a Precinct Committeeperson

The precinct is the smallest political unit in the country. A precinct can not be divided by legislative, congressional or supervisor district. A precinct is where elections are won or lost. Most importantly, it is your neighborhood. You know the people, the schools and the community centers. You have your hand on the pulse of the precinct; you understand the problems and potentials and have a desire to improve your neighborhood.

Never underestimate the power of the precinct worker! It is the precinct worker, actively participating in the Democratic Party at the precinct level, who wins elections for the Democratic Party at the local, state, and national levels.

The Democratic Party begins with the Precinct Committeeperson. A Precinct Committeeperson is a representative of the Party in the precinct in which he or she resides. For every 500 registered voters in a precinct, there should be one precinct person of each gender. Each Precinct Person is a member of the County Central Committee of the county party. This body has the authority to adopt rules or resolutions covering any matter of party government within the county. Additionally, this is the body that establishes the policies, articulates the beliefs and establishes the standard of all local Democratic candidates. Being a Precinct Committeeperson can mean a lot of hard work, a lot of educating and persuading and a good sense of organization, but Precinct Committee people are the cornerstone of the party, and can really have an impact.

CCDCC Relates to DPO

The legislative power of the Democratic Party of Oregon is vested in the State Central Committee.

Members of the State Central Committee are made up of at least two delegates elected from each county and one additional delegate for each 15,000 registered Democrats, and comprise the main authortative body of the Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO).

County central committees like the Curry County Democratic Central Committee (CCDCC) elect delegates and alternate delegates to the State Central Committee at their organization meetings according to law and the bylaws of the county central committee.

In addition to the delegates from the county parties, Democratic members of the Oregon Legislative Assembly, members of the Executive Committee of the State Central Committee, and the membership of the Standing Committees of the State Central Committee are Associate Members of the State Central Committee.

The State Central Committee elects the officers of the Democratic Party of Oregon, fill vacancies in State Party offices, approves the budget of the State Central Committee and approves actions of the Executive Committee when required.
